Personal Information” is information that we collect that identifies you as an individual. We collect this data from information you provide directly to us. For example, we collect information when you sign up for our newsletter, fill out a form, respond to a survey, send us an email, request information, participate in a contest or promotion, submit a story or tip, communicate with us via third party social media sites, or otherwise communicate with us. This could include:

  • Name
  • Contact Information
  • Postal address
  • Telephone number
  • Email address
  • Survey Responses
  • Other information you choose to provide
  • Other demographic data

“Registration information” is data you provide when you create an account, enter a promotion, or link your profile on a third-party site or platform with your registration account, such as your first name and surname, country of residence, gender, date of birth, email address, username, and password. From time to time, we, or through a link on a third-party site or platform, may offer you an opportunity to register with us.

Other Information is non-identifying information we automatically gather from your browser when you access our website, software, or platforms which enable us to optimize your viewing experience. The information we collect does not reveal your specific identity or does not directly relate to an individual. Information that is collected include, but is not limited to:

  • Browser information
  • Server log files
  • Information collected through cookies, pixel tags, and other technologies
  • Location information, including location information provided by a mobile or other device interacting with one of our sites or applications (including through beacon technologies), or associated with your IP address, as permitted by law.
  • Aggregated information
  • Usage, viewing, technical, and device data when you visit our sites, use our applications on third-party sites or platforms, or open emails we send, including your browser or device type, unique device identifier, and IP address

How CDM Collects Information

Through your browser: Certain information is collected by most browsers, such as your Media Access Control (MAC) address, computer type (Windows or Macintosh), screen resolution, operating system version, and Internet browser type and version.

Log Information: We log information about your use of the Site, including the type of browser you use, access times, pages viewed, your IP address, and the page you visited before navigating to our Site. An Internet Protocol (IP) address is a number that is automatically assigned to the computer that you are using by your Internet Service Provider (ISP), and is identified and logged automatically in our server log files whenever a user visits the Site, along with the time of the visit and the page(s) that were visited. We use IP addresses for purposes such as calculating Site usage levels, helping diagnose server problems, and administering the Site.

Device Information: We may collect information about the computer or mobile device you use to access our Site, including the hardware model, operating system and version, device identifiers, and mobile network information.

Information Collected by Cookies: We use various technologies to collect information, and this may include sending cookies to your computer or mobile device. Like many companies with web pages, we also use automated collection tools, such as “cookies” and “web beacons,” to gather information from you and your computer while you are visiting our website. A cookie is a small file stored on your computer that lets us know whether you’ve visited our website before and your navigation experience during your visit. We may use cookies to facilitate your access to our services, to enhance your experience, to increase security, and to recognize your computer or device. Cookies allow us to collect statistical information about the usage of our services and website to improve functionality and design.

Other Tracking Technologies: We may also collect information using web beacons (also known as “tracking pixels” or “clear GIFs”). Web beacons are electronic images that may be used in our Site or emails to help deliver cookies, count visits, understand usage and campaign effectiveness and determine whether an email has been opened and acted upon. URLs contained in emails contain an ID that enables us to identify Site users who take an action using a page from the Site, and we may use these URLs to simplify the process of signing petitions and completing surveys. We may occasionally present a shortened URL that references a longer URL that contains an ID. We do this to simplify the display, to prevent links from becoming broken when copied, and to ensure compatibility with email programs that do not handle long URLs. When a shortened URL is displayed in an email, you will see the full URL in the browser’s address bar when you access the page.

By aggregating information: We may aggregate Personal Information so that the end-product does not personally identify you or any other user of the Site. For example, we use Personal Information to calculate the percentage of our users who have a particular telephone area code. Aggregated Personal Information does not personally identify you or any other user of the Site.

Other Miscellaneous Information: We may also obtain information from other sources and combine that with information we collect through our Site. We may also use such information for list matching and other purposes.

Information Collected by Advertising and Analytics Platforms

We may allow others to provide analytics services and serve advertisements on our behalf across the web and in mobile applications. These entities may use cookies, web beacons, device identifiers, and other technologies to collect information about your use of the Site and other websites and applications, including your IP address, web browser, mobile network information, pages viewed, time spent on pages or in apps, links clicked, and conversion information. This information may be used by Consensus Digital Media and others to, among other things, analyze and track data, determine the popularity of certain content, deliver advertising, and content targeted to your interests on our Services and other websites, and better understand your online activity. For example, we may use Remarketing with Google Analytics or other remarketing tools to advertise online. This enables third-party vendors, including Google, to show our ads on sites across the Internet. Such third-party vendors, including Google, may use first-party cookies (such as the Google Analytics cookie) and third-party cookies (such as the DoubleClick cookie) together to inform, optimize, and serve ads based on your past visits to our Site. For information on how you can opt out of Google’s use of cookies for interest-based ads, please visit Google’s Ads Settings. Other advertising vendors we may use include, without limitation, Yahoo!, MSN, Facebook, Twitter. For more information about Internet-based ads, or to opt out of having your web browsing information used for behavioral advertising purposes, please visit www.aboutads.info/choices.

Social Features

The Site may offer social sharing features and other integrated tools (such as the Facebook “Like” button), which let you share actions you take on our Site with other media, and vice versa. The use of such features enables the sharing of information with your friends or the public, depending on the settings you establish with the entity that provides the social sharing feature. For more information about the purpose and scope of data collection and processing in connection with social sharing features, please visit the privacy policies of the entities that provide these features.
